I'm a preschool teacher and my center is going through the process for accreditation by N.A.E.Y.C (the National Association for the Education of Young Children) It's a really big thing to get accreditation and the pressure to get things right is getting to me. I have made great progress on the current baby blanket, I'm almost done with it. My birthday was last Friday and I got a perpetual calendar on knit stitches. It's really cool. Well that's all for now. Happy knitting.

Nothing new

The baby shower I planned for work went very well. My friend Charla really liked the blue shell baby blanket, hat a booties. Things are starting to calm down a little at work. Well that's not really right. I think I'm too inspired. That is that I have too many things rattling around in my head that I want to do and I can't focus on anyone thing. I have made a little progress on the baby blanket. I was only able to knit on it today. Friday night I went shopping for the Baby shower we are throwing Charla from work. She is the one I knitted the blue shell pattern baby blanket for. Saturday I had to get tires on my car and had a migrane. Lots of fun! I really want to get a bike. I wanted to get one yesterday but I feel like I spent a lot for the tires I don't really need to be spending more on a bike. I also want to bid on some more yarn Queer Joe has up on ebay. But again I have spent too much money. I want to do/buy a lot of things but my practical side is over-rulling me. I also want to knit hats for charity, blankets for the critter-knitter project and a sweater for my self, but I feel that I need to finish the baby blanket first. So I guess I should stop whining and get on with the knitting. Well happy knitting.

-Mary

Tired and grumpy

My work hours have been different each day. It is literally painful. I'm prone to carpral tunnel like symptoms and tendanitus in my right arm (my dominant hand). I got some great looking yarn and umber 35 needles (My brother says you can hunt vampires with them.)yesterday at Hobby Lobby. The yarn is Jiffy quick and easy or something like that. I don't know what I'm going to do with it yet but that doesn't really matter. The name of the color is Birkshires. I wonder how the people who name colors come up with them. While I was at Hobby Lobby I also looked for paint. Not a single color was just plain blue or red. Everything was Williamsburg blue or fiery Red. It frustrated me because I just wanted the normal everyday blue. I was even talking to my self like a crazy person asking why they couldn't just call it blue. Why does the world have to be so complicated?
I have also been thinking about cartoon characters. I saw a Tweety bird tire cover and that reminded me and also got me thinking about how gay he is. Now don't get me wrong. I don't think there is anything wrong with being gay. If that's how God made you, who am I to argue. And I do believe that your either born gay or straight. But anyway Tweety got me thinking of Burt and Ernie. A lot of my friends disagree with me on the fact that they were/are gay. Readers that are not old enough to have watched Sesame Street in the late 70's will not know that Bert and Ernie slept in the same bed, now that in it's self wouldn't make them gay but the fact that they took baths, bubble baths together does. One argument is that they were just really good friends. Now I say that they were two grown muppets and no matter how good a friend I had I never took a bubble bath with any of them. The come back to that was that they were children. I say if they were children they would have had parents living with them. Big Bird is supposed to be a child but he's just a stinking bird. They don't need parents to live with them. All the fact point to Bert and Ernie being gay. You might ask your self what does this matter anyway. It doesn't, not really, everyone just needs to except the fact that they are gay.
I have also been thinking a lot about how I have an aversion to animals that are black and white. I don't know why. The realization only can to me recently. I always knew I didn't like penguins and pandas. But it didn't click until I thought about how I don't like either of them together and that I really don't care for zebras either. Isn't it funny how people just have stupid preferences like that. Well that's all for now. Happy knitting.
-Mary

Mikey says "What? I have the day off from work and can't even enjoy it. I haven't even felt like knitting. Molly (one of my cats) is also sick. She has a bladder infection. She's really good about taking pills though, which really surprised me. If we had to give pills to the other two cats I think we would end up in the hospital. I have two more members in my Stitch and Bitch group! Yay! The tally is now up to five. When I finish this I'm going to go take pictures of everything I have done lately, so this blog won't just be my ramblings. That's all for now. The pattern said that it was one size fits all but I guess me and my Mom have big heads or something. The bottom edge of the hat hit both of us at about an inch above our ears. I took a picture of her with it on and she looked like an escaped mental patient and she took a picture of me wearing it and I looked like I should be riding the short bus. Needless to say, I will not be posting those pictures. I was going to take and post pictures of the finished hat, but the batteries died.
I saw a really funny thing on the way to work today. It was probably there all along and I didn't notice it, but anyway a house on my way to work has a black lawn jockey in the front yard. I find this very funny because I thought to my self, Do the people that live there know that is considered offensive? Do they care? Are they just saying "Fuck it! We like it and it's our yard we'll put any thing we want in it."? Or are they racist? I'm half tempted to go up and ask them. My luck though they would be murders and keep me in a pit in the basement before killing and eating me.
I'm disappointed that no one has signed up for my Stitch and Bitch group on the internet. I have a couple of days off the week after next so I going to make up flyers and put them in any knitting/craft store that will let me. Hopefully that will get some interest going. Well happy knitting.
-Mary

Success!

I finely figured out why everything I knitted on double pointed needles came out inside out. I re-read the directions in my "Stitch and Bitch" but I didn't get it until my friend Linda at work showed me what I was doing wrong. I've only got four rounds of my Mom's hat done so far. I had to frog all of it about 3 times though.
Well Ms. Evie (the cat) has been in a mood all day yesterday and today. Usually she loves to be petted, but yesterday she acted like she didn't want anyone to even look at her. Today she is just acting like she's pissed off about something. I don't care if some people think it's juvenile to give animals human attributes. If you live with a animal long enough you can tell how they feel, animals aren't like furniture. I wonder what's got her proverbial panties in a bunch? My mother thinks it's because Molly (the youngest cat) jumped her yesterday morning right after breakfast.
I put a bid on 16 oz of baby Alpaca spinning fiber. I hope I get it. Yesterday was father's day so I was going to take my Dad to the zoo (It's our annual father's day thing.)but both of us weren't feeling too well. It'll be a busy weekend this week though, the Greek fest is in town and I promised to take my Dad to the zoo on Sunday. I posted pictures of the yarn and buttons I plan to use. I think the pattern for the hat is on page 162 of Stitch and Bitch. I have put off knitting on my brothers hat for two reasons: 1. I'm getting sick of tinking it and re-knitting it. 2. I just got my order from Lion Brand yarn. I ordered a set of Britney birchwood number 10's and number 11's double points. I started to knit on my Mom's hat but I think I'll have to tink it too. For some reason when ever I knit on double points or circular needles it comes out backwards. That is the bumpy side is on the inside and the smooth side is on the inside. I think I have to figure out why before I go on. Well that's all for tonight. Happy knitting.

-Mary

What's to say?

Well I just found out that there is going to be another knitting meetup on July 21 another Wednesday. I just hope my work doesn't find out and plan a staff meeting on that day.
I'm trying to knit a hat for my brother, but I'm becoming very frustrated with it. I had to tink it three time already. For those who don't know 'tink' is to un-knit. Tink is Knit backwards, clever huh. Well I don't really have any thing else to say tonight. I had to come home early from work due to stress induced sickness. I know I shouldn't let work stress me out, but I take being a pre-school teacher very seriously. So I guess I'm stressed out and depressed. I haven't gotten any knitting done but I have been on a lot of S.E.X. missions (For those who don't know S.E.X. stands for Stash Expanding eXpedition.) I plan on making a winter hat for myself using the pattern out of the Stitch and Bitch book. It's the green one with little sparkly bits on it. I couldn't find any sparkly bits I liked but I did find some really cute buttons with a cat theme. I'm like two steps away from being the crazy cat lady so I said "What the hell." I noticed that I seem to write in a run-on manner, but it doesn't seem anybody reads this thing anyway. I have to go watch "Last comic standing" now. Just because I feel like bitching!

Knitting things that bug me...
There are no yarn shops around my house or work.
The fabric shop that carries all the lion bran yarn is in a bad neighborhood.
I always forget to pee before I leave work to go yarn shopping so I end up doing the wild pee-pee dance and can't really shop like I want to because the shop doesn't have a public restroom.
The fact that Wal-mart doesn't carry ANY size double-pointed needles but they carry every other fucking size hook and needle except the ones I need right then.... You know I suppose that's not really their fault because fate always conspires against me anyway.
That's it for the knitting bitching so on to the regular life bitching.
Washing clothes
Folding clothes
Hanging clothes
Wearing clothes
Those stupid videos and computer programs for infants. All your teaching your baby by plopping them in front of the t.v. to watch a video is that you get all entertainment from the boob tube and it's o.k. to be a couch potato, because Mommy and Daddy really don't have time to actually talk to you or interact with you in anyway.
People who don't do at least the speed limit.
Men who have chest hair poking out of the top of their tee-shirt. Yuck!
Those commercials that are advertising some great-can't live with out-just blow your fucking brains out if you don't get one-products and the actors over act and make the simplest-everyday activity seems like a monumental task.
This one might be a repeat- People who use brand names for generic products. For example calling disposable diapers "Pampers" whether they are actually pampers or not or saying fridgidaire for refrigerator.
My Dad's habit of saying Ice-Box when he means refrigerator and Comedian strip when he means median strip.
The way I say Warsh instead of Wash and Wrench instead of rinse.
People who don't use their turning signals.
Cleaning the litter boxes
Having to change sheets and turn a mattress at 11:30 because you just noticed your cat pissed in the middle of your bed because you didn't clean the litter box.
People who type or write their name in all lower case because they think it's cool or something
I think that's all the bitching for now.
I thought I would even out all the bitching with some thing I like.
The smell of the fabric store I go to, to buy yarn. I smells like what I would imagine a sweet old grandma would smell like. My Paternal grandmother died when I was two and I never really had a relationship with my maternal grandmother who also died when I was young.
The smell of a library.
Opening boxes that come in the mail. I don't even care if what's inside is for me or not.
Being totally surprised when the kid that's been driving you up the wall all day does what you tell them.
Seeing a kid catch on to something that they had trouble with before.
Kids that understand sarcasm at a early age.
Kids you can joke with.
Coming home to find your cat missed you because you weren't there not just because they were hungry.
Finding a toy your cat actually likes.
Little fat babies.
When your at the check out and finding the store is having a sale on yarn you didn't know about.
Cute old people who hold hands.
When you come back from lunch break and the kids in your class come up and hug you like you where gone for a month.
Finding out the parents of the kids in your class really like you.
Getting a phone call from your best friend that you haven't seen for a year.
Men who hold the door for you.
When your on a date and the guy races to open the door for you.
Spell check!

I would like to clarify the comment about fate always conspiring against me. I'm not usually a poor-me type of person, however, when ever my church has a yard sale, I don't care where I'm working or when we plan it I always have a Saturday staff meeting or a training I have to attend. Now when I want to go to the Knitting meet-up on the 16th, guess what I have a staff meeting. So fate is conspiring against me.

Well I think that's it for now. I'm taking an on-line Html tutorial so hopefully I will be able to spice this blog up a bit. Happy Knitting.

-Mary

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://knitchat.blogspot.com/2004/06/more-things-that-bug-me-just-because-i.html' title='More things that bug me.... The shorn alpaca remind me of dandelions. The wool and yarn was crazy expensive though. I didn't get any yarn or wool but I did get a hat from Peru for 4.50. I have a thing about winter hats. The goofier they are the better. This one isn't goofy really but it's not a typical hat either. My friend Linda that went with me said it was definitely me. What I did get out of the show was a desire to spin my own yarn. I came home and got on e-bay and found a spindle for hand spinning. Because I'm allergic to wool I have to wait to use it until I get some cotton or alpaca or something.
Work is really stressing me out. I've been having a poor-me week, feeling sorry for my self. I decided to scour the internet for knitting patterns to make my self feel better. I want to share the funniest comment I have gotten about my green fun-fur purse, one of the four year olds where I work saw my purse sitting on the front desk and said "Hey look guys! A nest!" I finished my big purple fun-fur purse and have started to work on a pair of slippers for my brother. Next on the agenda is a Lion brand Jiffy hat for my self. Happy knitting!
-Mary

Good news/Bad news

The good news first, Mikey had to go stay over night at the vets because he had to have a blood glucose curve taken. I missed him terribly because this was the first night in his life he was away from home over-night. Well anyway the good news is that he no longer diabetic. I was flabbergasted when I heard but the vet says that sometimes cats pull out of diabetes. So the bad news is that today we found out my Dad has diabetes. I was like that's a kick in the head! The cats cured but now my Dad has it! For right now he will be on pills which is good. He's such a big baby I don't think he could stand to take shots. I also got some great advice from fellow Stitch N' Bitch fans about starting a Stitch N' Bitch group of my own. I plan to go to the international knitting meetup on June 16th too. If you want to know about a meetup in your town go to www.knitting.meetup.com. I would also like to thank Joe of Queer Joe's Knitting blog for some advice he gave me about my blog. Well that's all for now. Happy Knitting.

-Mary

Depressing results

Well I'm not happy at all. I searched the web for a Stitch and Bitch group that meets in Louisville, Kentucky and all I found were a lot of adds for adult escorts and fetish clubs. NOT what I was looking for. I did how ever find a link to the Lexington SNB group so I e-mailed them for advice.
Mikey is not happy either. His diabetes is acting up and the vet wants him to switch from Fancy Feast (The food he has been eating since he got off the Kitten Chow) to a special diet. Also we feed him too much. I guess that is part of the reason he weighs 17 pounds. He hates the special food and we had to cut back on his regular food. He has to go to the doctor and stay all day tomorrow. I know he will hate that too. One bright spot is that Evie Loves the diabetic food. Well it's 11:00 and time for Furturama on Cartoon Network. Since this is a knitting blog I'll start off with the knitting things that bug me.
1. Knitting on circular needles.
2. The purl stitch.
3. When you knit in public and people say dumb things like "Knit one, Purl two! Ha ha."
4. When people confuse knitting and crochet.
5. When you are working with a center pull skein and you get to the end of it and the skein collapse and your yarn gets tangled.

Okay, now for the non-knitting things that bug me.
1. People who don't respect your personal space.
2. People who hate cats for no good reason.
3. Political correctness. I think you should be able to say what ever you think about anything. If someone's feelings get hurt oh well they need to get over it. This country was founded on being able to say what ever you want.
4. Fake people.
5. Loud people.
6. The republican point of view on gay marriage. I think that you should be able to marry and love anybody you want as long as the person is a consenting adult.
7. People who say "I'm sorry, but I think that blah blah." Don't apologize for your opinion. If that's how you feel either own it or don't express it.
8. Racist
9. That tampon commercial that the girl plugs up the leak in the boat. That's just gross. Everybody knows what tampons do, you don't have to demonstrate.
10. Old women who think it's okay to wear tube tops.
11. People that think their children/pets are the cutest/smartest in the whole world. (Except for Hammy the Hamster ;).)
12. People who have bumper stickers that say "My child is on the honor role at blah blah school." Believe me you are the only people that care.
13. People that think that letting little boys play with purses or dress up clothes will make them gay. Sexual identity isn't even set until about age 6 or 7, and so what if they are gay. It's not the end of the world and you couldn't change it anyway.
14. When people name their pets stupid names like Fluffy and Fido.
15. People who call Robert Denerio, Bobby like there his best friend, but the closest they ever got was watching his movies.
16. People who don't realize that you have no interest in what they are talking about but that you don't want to be rude so you just stand there nodding your head wishing that a meteorite would smash into them so you can escape and get on with living your live.
17. People who drive to slow.
18. People who walk down the street talking on a cell phone acting like they are the busiest people on the earth and can't spare a minute to just walk down the damn street.
19. People who come up to you in the grocery store and start talking to you like they know you or that you care that a friend of theirs drank a whole bottle of peroxide and got better.
20. Continually up-beat people. NOBODY'S that fucking happy all the fucking time!

Well I think that's enough for now. Right now I'm working on a violet fun fur purse. I'm doing the lining now and I'm starting to get sick of it. I want to get the purse done but I also want to start knitting some slippers for my brother John.

Isn't he the cutest hamster? Even though I have yarn at home I feel compelled to buy more. I can't wait to go to the alpaca fest. I plan to get yarn there, even though I have boxes of yarn already. I got the cutest yarn the other day, it looks like terry cloth. The first baby hat I tried to make didn't come out right so I decided to change to a less complicated pattern. The pattern called for #7 circular needles and #7 double pointed needles, which I didn't have. I went to the Hobby Lobby (which I love!). Well I pick out what I needed and then started to look at the yarn. The adorable pale blue terry cloth yarn just begged to be bought. You just can't pass up yarn when it begs to be bought can you? I really liked the pattern which came out of my favorite knitting book Stitch and Bitch. It knitted up really quick and easy. So I'm happy that I was able to produce a hat that looks like a hat. Happy Knitting.
-Mary.

More ramblings

I love fruit bats. I've had a stressful week at work. We are going through a re-structuring at work. It's good in some ways but bad in others. I won't be working with the person I have been, but I have the opportunity to promote. I work for a great company though. It's Bright Horizons. If you work them e-mail me.
I posted pictures of my cats and recent projects. Mikey is really the only cat I have, the girls choose My Mom as their person. Cats are like that, you can welcome in to your home, feed them, take them to the vet, but you don't really own them. If they don't want to have anything to do with you they won't. If you are reading this you probably love knitting or you got here by accident, either way you should keep reading. I titled my blog Knitt Chat because I love to talk about knitting but my family and friend don't knit and just don't understand. I got the idea to create a blog from the book Stich 'n Bitch by Debbie Stroller. It's great! It;s a handbook designed for today's knitters. I tried to start a Stich 'n Bitch group at my work because we have quite a few knitters but it didn't work out. I'm currently working on a baby blanket, but I took a break from that to make three purses. I used a free pattern I found at WWW.lionbranyarn.com. One of the bags I followed the pattern but on one I modified it to make it bigger and on the purse I made for my self I didn't have enough yarn to make two handles so I just put one on. I will have pictures as soon as I figure out how to download them from the camera. Please feel free to post your comments. Happy Knitting!
